I remember when I was 12 years old, I was brutally tricked by my friends when they told me I will not make it to swim across a river near our summer camp, 25km north of my home. They showed me the destination point on the other side. It was clearly visible and river was just about 300m wide so, of course, I placed a bet with them. I was quite confident, as I had, for many years, been regularly swimming in a swim club several times per week and even participated in competitions. I was a relatively good swimmer.

Well, I did not know that river well and I had no idea what I was getting myself into! After the first 50m, I realized that powerful stream takes me along the river so fast that, in order to arrive to the point of our bet, I needed to work against the stream. That was the most exhausting swimming adventure I've ever experienced. What was 300m across would take several kilometers to approach and I still would not make it. The tide was too powerful and I end up few hundreds meter away from appointed betting point and lost my bet.

Why I am telling you that childhood story? There were few lessons for me there. Some are obvious, like knowing as many details of the subject as possible before making any predictions, for example. But some are not so obvious. We can easily find ourselves fighting against unexpected forces, and if we are not aware of that, end up exhausted and not at the point of destination we wanted.

Life is “throwing on us” lots of “things to deal with” and we deviate from our desired destination again and again. We can be super busy doing this and that and our business can seemingly never get the way we want it to be.
